Victor Pierre Horta, a Beligian architect was the first to apply Art Nouveau to architecture from the decorative arts. His influence was especially well known in  European Art Nouveau architect. One of his most notable works was the construction of his Hotel Tassel in Brussels. The building used profound materials and decoration. It was incredibly innovative at its time.

Final field journal

The most recent time period 1960 - present compared to the moderns is the most interesting comparison because it is a continuous of modern graphic design. Graphic design in the past was restricted by the tools and visual limitation of each tools. People couldn't come up with the incredible, detailed photoshop design today had the past not built the correct foundation to facilitate design growth. What has especially grown and been refined to this date is typography. Sans font had been created many decades ago, even today it is still be used and innovated. Google and Airbnb have based their font on such a large amount of history. Simplicity in design has also evolved since the pre-2000s time. The philosophy and principles that these designers face have been the same: readability, aesthetics, size. Journal 1 - Introduction

Hey guys! My name is Jasper Jeng. I currently live in San Jose, enjoying the beautiful weather every day. This course seems interesting to me because I have always wanted to have a deeper understanding on the origins of graphics design. Knowing the history could be beneficial to me when deciding the strategies involved in designing visuals for users. My main motivation to taking this class is to have a concrete foundation in creating websites! I hope that one day I can create nice websites for other people and be paid for them!
