Final field journal

The most recent time period 1960 - present compared to the moderns is the most interesting comparison because it is a continuous of modern graphic design. Graphic design in the past was restricted by the tools and visual limitation of each tools. People couldn't come up with the incredible, detailed photoshop design today had the past not built the correct foundation to facilitate design growth. What has especially grown and been refined to this date is typography. Sans font had been created many decades ago, even today it is still be used and innovated. Google and Airbnb have based their font on such a large amount of history. Simplicity in design has also evolved since the pre-2000s time. The philosophy and principles that these designers face have been the same: readability, aesthetics, size. Digital graphics is incredible. It has allowed not only the transfer of visual imagery to anyone around the world, but it has especially given people access to knowledge of graphic design where they otherwise would not have had access to. Further, there are near-like infinite solutions to graphic solutions that can be provided now, and in the future as well. It is very exciting time now to be living in.

I am most interested in the Retro and vernacular designed. Retro has been a theme that I have seen reoccur even until today. There are many of my peers who view Retro as a special aesthetic element that can only be achieved masterfully. And it is either masterfully or nothing at all. What surprises the most is that people can continuously discover more elements of Retro as the years go on, adding onto their value as well.

Raymond Lowey was an industrial designer who gained fame for the magnitude of his designs. His work is especially prolific because it personally aspires a burning feeling to succeed. It has a work hard and be paid hard sort of attitude and it interesting to see how it can grow from something small to something larger.

"In 1953, CAA published the World Geo-Graphic Atlas". This was especially interesting because graphic design had reached a point where the audience is word-wide. As in, a map where every person could or should learn and experience. Being progressive and helping the world advance is something that has been a particular point for graphic design.

Journal 6 - Salvador Dalí

Salvador Dali (1904 - 1989) is a Spanish realist who uses bizarre images in his work. He usually incorporates some expensive element to his sculpture. His eccentric and imaginative style brought great attention the details in his work. The Persistence of Memory emphasized the "softness" and "hardness" of Dali's theories. It is often referenced in popular culture, showing how widespread his work has been.

Victor Pierre Horta, a Beligian architect was the first to apply Art Nouveau to architecture from the decorative arts. His influence was especially well known in  European Art Nouveau architect. One of his most notable works was the construction of his Hotel Tassel in Brussels. The building used profound materials and decoration. It was incredibly innovative at its time.
